10 nights – Bespoke Itinerary
Day 1 – Your adventure begins in Tokyo
Arrive in Tokyo. The Japan Rail Pass is the best value and most comfortable and efficient way to see Japan. On arrival at the airport go to the JR desk and exchange your Japan Rail voucher for your valid Japan Rail Pass. Hop on the train to the city and make your way to your hotel. Enjoy free time in this bustling city.
1 night Tokyo
Day 2 – Hakone
Catch the train to Hakone for a chance to see the ‘shy mountain’ Mount Fuji. Spend the day exploring and enjoying the many activities available in the area. Note: You will need to change to a local service for this location. Overnight Hakone in a traditional Japanese hotel (Ryokan – with private bathroom – room only).
1 night Hakone
Days 3 & 4 – Hiroshima
Catch the Shinkansen (bullet train) south to Hiroshima. (Duration: 4 hours). Spend an afternoon free to wander the city and visit the Peace Park and Peace Memorial Museum (A must-see for any trip to this area). The next day use your rail pass to board the ferry to Itsukushima Island (Miyajima) and explore the ancient temples, shrines, and museum of history and folklore, not to mention the iconic Shintu Gate.
2 nights Hiroshima
Day 5 – Kyoto
Back to the station for your next rail journey to Kyoto. (Duration: 2 hours) On arrival check in to your hotel. Relax and take a wander around this beautiful old city. Perhaps visit the Nijo Castle (home of the Edo Emperors), the famous Nishiki Market, or take a chance to buy souvenirs in the old town.
4 nights Kyoto
Day 6 – Full day temples and shrines tour
Discover the World Heritage-listed Kyoto and visit the must-see sights in a day! Travel on an air-conditioned coach and get the chance to visit, Kiyomizu-Dera temple, Sanju-san-gen-do Temple, Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine -Senbon Torii-, Arashiyama and more. (Duration: 9 to 11 hours)
Day 7 & 8 – Kyoto
Relax and take an easy morning exploring Kyoto further. In the afternoon take a traditional tea ceremony in traditional dress. You will make Green tea (Matcha) in an ancient style tea ceremony room wearing Kimono. Kimono is prepared for both males and females. (Duration:2 hours)
The next day either explore more of Kyoto’s beautiful temples and gardens or why not catch the train to the ancient capital of Nara where you can visit the Todai-Ji Buddhist temple complex, one of the powerful Seven Gate Temples located in the city. Don’t miss the many deer that wander the streets here.
Days 9 & 10 – Tokyo
Back on the bullet train as you return to Tokyo. Perhaps visit the Imperial Palace, Shinjuku fashion district, the famously busy Shibuya Crossing, or one of the many gardens around the city.
